I’ve marked all of the work which was handed in . After reading through your work I’m rather pleased , most of you have made a real effort . I’ll give you your scripts back on Tuesday and you can see the individual comments I have made. There is an afterschool session on Tuesday and this would be an ideal time to make any changes that you might need to.
This weeks deadline is Thursday 15th May and I’ll be expecting you to hand in work linked to your Methodology ; EQI ; Sustainability Tests ; Car Park Survey ; Land Use Survey.
In Tuesday’s lesson we’ll work on the last part of the Methodology, the Water Quality tests.
5 people didn’t hand work in and a letter will be sent to notify their parents.
Please remember to bring your permission slips and money to the lesson Tuesday , it would be a real shame if you missed the trip. If you’ve mislaid the form you can download a copy at the above url address.

I’ve marked all of the exams now and I’m in a position to give you some general feedback. I don’t know how many times I threw my hands in the air with despair! How many times do I need to say, ‘if they give you figures use them.’ Lots of you dropped a grade because you didn’t follow this basic piece of advice. Some of you didn’t identify the exam command words and therefore didn’t ‘do what it says on the tin,’ costing yourself yet another grade, for example, draw the bars in rank order. Another area of weakness ,was some peoples’ ability to define keywords such as famine and malnutrition – I was actually quite shocked by some of your answers. Case studies are another area where lots of you need to revise much more rigorously – yes ,that’s right ,revision is hard work! Finally when the question asks you to use or refer to a source DO IT! If you don’t ,you are making what should be a fairly straightforward task much more difficult.
Every lesson between now and the end of the summer term will be spent on your coursework. Your coursework will make up 25% of your final grade so it is worth us investing a hefty amount of time into it.
Next week you will able to browse through coursework projects from previous years. This will hopefully give you an idea as to what you should be aspiring to and also an idea of what you should avoid doing.
I will set individual deadlines for each of the different sections. This week I have asked you to produce your Title page, Introduction, Maps and Background Information for Thursday 8th May. It is going to be really important to keep to these deadlines because once you fall behind it is very difficult to catch up especially when you have coursework to do for more than one subject. We are aiming to have your whole coursework study finished by the end of term.
See where you should be on the Coursework Tower!
I’ve listed below some websites which you may find helpful over the next couple of months as you work through your coursework. If I discover any new ones I’ll add them to the list below ,similarly if you find a site which you think could be useful please let me know and I’ll add it to the list.
You have your Geography exam next Thursday . The exam paper concentrates on 3 main topics we have studied ; Development ,Tourism and Food and Water. There won’t be any questions on Tectonic Activity , Coasts or National Parks – so don’t revise these topics.
When you are revising , remember that revision is hard work. Just sitting there browsing or staring at your notes isn’t going to be enough. You could read your notes and then close your book and write down what you can remember ,this is a good way of testing yourself. Why not play the movies you made ? Play them and then write down what you can remember and then repeat once you find out which bits you missed out. Make up case study revision cards which have the key points of particular case studies……..use post its to condense your notes and stick them in various places around your room etc. There are so many ways to revise but osmosis is not one of them!

I’ve just marked your extended learning . Overall ,it wasn’t too bad ,but some of you are going to have to raise your game. The first question asked you to ‘Explain how and why the coastline shown may change in the future.’ I expected you to explain how the coastal landscape is changing constantly because of the processes of erosion and weathering. You then needed to explain that there is a ‘repeated process’ operating i.e. crack/cave/arch/stack/stump. You then needed to actually name the processes of erosion, such as hydraulic action which lead to their development. If you were going for full marks you also needed to explain that cliff retreat ,involves the development of a wavecut notch etc. and that gradually over time the coastline will retreat inland.
I’ll bring in the Angel cake photos tomorrow………
